I suppose I can see good uses for a pet that doesn't require any real care and feeding, something that can just be plugged into a wall and be a kind of companion to people who either don't want the responsibility of taking care of an actual pet or who are too old or frail to do so on their own. But it does come with some privacy concerns.
"And unlike our smart speakers or other stationary robots and sensors, the Familiar will be able to amble about our homes, watching us all the time. This will help it build what its makers call a “social graph”: how people in a household relate to one another, and what their relationship is to the Familiar itself."
